March 25-28, 2015 James Madison University organized Cultivating the Globally Sustainable Self: Summit Series on Transformative Teaching, Training, and Learning in Research and Practice.  The first in series of at least three summits, this event brought together about fifty local, national, and global researchers, practitioners, theorists, and generalists to focus on five overarching thematic areas (conflict resolution, human rights, sustainability, global education, and religious and cultural understanding) and develop a draft agenda for a global program of research-to-practice.  Dr. Nico Jooste, from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa, was among the presenters.  The summit series aims to pursue two interrelated goals: 1) understanding the content and process of transformation, and 2) transforming understanding into research and practice.
