INU is delighted to announce that the theme of the 2026 Student Seminar will be ‘The UN SDGs and sustainable economic development’.

The International Student Seminar for Global Citizenship and Peace is INU’s flagship program for students is hosted by Hiroshima University Japan and coincides with the 6th August commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. In 2026, the seminar will consider the role of international organisations, especially the United Nations, in the field of sustainable economic development and examine how effective and influential international organisations can be in achieving this purpose. It will explore the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental and discuss the possible ways to establish a balance between them.

Expressions of interest are welcome from Faculty on the following areas:

Economics and finance: green finance and sustainable investment, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) frameworks
Energy: renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal), access to affordable and clean energy
Industry: sustainable industrialisation based on innovation, cleaner production techniques, circular economy models (reuse, recycling, resource efficiency)
Technology and innovation: green technologies and environmental monitoring, digital solutions for sustainability
Agriculture: sustainable farming practices, soil and water conservation, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture
Urban sustainability and future cities: urban planning and infrastructure, green buildings, efficient public transportation and mobility systems, sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure
Environment: sustainable use of resources and ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, waste management and pollution control, human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment
Social development: poverty reduction, education, productive employment and labour rights
Public policy and governance: sustainable development policies, environmental regulation and enforcement
