For Students
The INU Student Seminar on Global Citizenship:
Hiroshima, 4-11 August 2008
Program theme:
"What is a Global Citizen?"
The Student Seminar will be held from the 4th to 11th August 2008. The program has been scheduled to coincide with the 2008 Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima on August 6th and students will be given an opportunity to attend this ceremony as part of an intensive cultural program.
A draft of the full program for the seminar is available for downloading as a PDF document from the 2008 Seminar Resources.
Topics for this seminar will include:
- Defining global citizenship
- Global governance - what is it and is it desirable?
- Security - how does the drive for security affect global citizenship? What do borders mean in the 21st century?
- What can the UN do on global issues such as nuclear disarmament? Is the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NNPT) still viable?
- Examples of active global citizenship.
There will be a Role Play at the end of the Seminar. The topic for the Role Play has yet to be confirmed but will be related to the themes above.
Once again, Hiroshima University has kindly offered to host the Student Seminar and funding from the Henry Fong donation has been made available to cover the cost of travel, accommodation and subsistence for one student from each full member University.
Students who have been invited to apply to attend the Seminar by their Universities should read the Guidelines and download the Nomination form from the 2008 Seminar Resources.
