The INU Student Seminar on Global Citizenship:
Hiroshima, 4-11 August 2007

Program theme - 'Climate Change - a Global Issue'

Seminar Group 2007

The International Network of Universities runs an annual student seminar on Global Citizenship. In 2006 this seminar was run for the first time and was hosted by Hiroshima University and has agreed to host and contribute to the running costs for the next three years.

In 2007 the program was again scheduled to coincide with the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima on 6 August.

A report on the 2007 Seminar (PDF 2Mb) has now been prepared. This report will be presented to the INU Council meeting in Malmo, Sweden on 18th September 2007. Any comments or queries relating to the report can be directed to Jo Watts in the INU Secretariat.

Read about the seminar in Hiroshima University's Newsletter.

The theme of the 2007 Student Seminar Seminar was "Climate Change - A Global Issue"

Seminar Topics included:
  1. What are the dimensions of the climate change problem? Who does it affect and what are the causes?
  2. What is the Kyoto Protocol and the politics surrounding it?
  3. What is the 'ecological footprint' of the global community. How does the West compare with the East in terms of the use of global resources?
  4. How have states and Global Institutions responded to this challenge?

There was a Role Play at the end of the Seminar. A resolution on measures to combat climate change was presented to a Mock UN General Assembly.
