INU Shadowing Program for Administrative Staff - 2010/2011
The INU Staff Shadowing Program gives staff at INU member universities the opportunities to shadow a colleague at another INU university.
Guidelines
All INU member universities are invited to participate in the INU Staff Shadowing Program. The deadline for the 2010 round of applications is Monday 29 March, 2010 and the shadowing programs are expected to take place from June 2010 to June 2011.
Below you will find all you need to know about the program, but if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact the INU Secretariat. Please note that staff members interested in participating in the program will need to apply through their home university.
The general objective of the INU Shadowing program
The INU network shadowing program aims to strengthen the links between members by providing opportunities for administrators at senior and middle level to study, discuss and compare administration and governance systems across the network.
The structure of the program
Through the program, staff members at senior or middle management level will normally spend one or two weeks with one or two different INU partners. However, the guidelines will be applied flexibly regarding length and number of visits, to take account of individual circumstances.
Eligibility
In the first instance, priority will be given to senior and middle level administrative staff in the following areas. However, other areas can be added if there is sufficient interest among members.

- Human Resources
- International programs
- Student Affairs/Student support services
- IT support
- Library services
- Alumni
- Fundraising
- Community commitment
Requirements
- The staff member must be employed at an INU member university
- The staff member must have a good working knowledge in English
Financial arrangements
- Costs will be covered by the host and home universities participating in the program.
- The host university will be responsible for arranging and funding residential accommodation and meals.
- The staff member's home university will cover travel costs and additional costs (e.g. medical insurance).
Selection criteria
- Benefit of the visit to the home and host universities' overall international strategies
- Potential of the visit for contributing to the participant's professional development
- Value of the visit in contributing to INU cooperation activities
Application process
Staff interested in participating should seek advice from their INU contact at their own institution about the selection procedures that may be in place.
All staff seeking to participate will need to complete an application form and submit it to the INU Secretariat, with supporting documention including approval from their home institution by 29 March 2010.
Applicants and their home university will be informed by the INU Secretariat by email of the outcome of their application.
Participants will be required to write a report of the results of their visit within a month upon their return to the home university (maximum 2 pages) in English and hand in to the INU contact person at their institution. It should include a summary of the program carried out and an assessment of the visit. The INU contact should forward on the report to the INU Secretariat, for circulation.
The INU Council meeting in November 2006 agreed that staff members who participate in the Shadowing Program will be awarded a certificate to show that they have completed the program. This certificate will be dispatched upon receipt of a completed visit report and associated documentation.
